Post here if you'd like to share your opinion about the genre of Film Noir. What does it seem to be saying about humanity? Do you like it? Do you see any modern films that are similar?
i think its saying that this is a very dark time for humanity as a whole. crimes are taking place, a world war just ended and now we are reflecting upon what has just happened. i mean its not a light hearted time, veterans are returning from war and the public is just returning to normal, regarding war propaganda and manufacturing. this movie so far is interesting, i do like it. the murder plot, the secrecy, and the nerve racking; you wonder if the murder will go smoothly or not. one modern movie that is similar to Film Noir is Black Swan.
Film Noir takes the "all man is capable of great evils" approach in that everything about the movie is portrayed negatively. For example, the actual environment of the scenes are mostly rainy or damp from previous rain which gives the film a very ominous feel to it. It also supports this thesis by having the main character, Walter, go from this average guy to a murderer almost instantly without much convincing necessary, as if it was so easy for him to do whatever he thought was critical to obtaining the things he wanted even though it would normally have gone against his morals.
I like film noir because it portrays men in a way they really are. Instead of having an evil character, who is totally evil it shows that every human being has both the good, and bad inside of them. I like this type of movie because it has a very dark mood is dark and it has a lot of suspense. A fairly modern film that could be considered film noir is Blade Runner.
